Scooter Style in Vietnam

📕 |

September 10, 2014

| ANDREA PORTER

As Scooter Style was one of the top dealers for Piaggio/Vespa in Australia, we were invited to Hanoi Trafficcheck out their new factory in Vietnam in July.  Piaggio / Vespa is still Italian but they are expanding their factories throughout Asia to assist in building their brand around the world.  The Piaggio / Vespa factory in Vietnam is pretty new, the first scooters being made in 2010.  It is a state of the art production line which is committed to a long term growth plan.  They have a bucket load of room to grow as demand for their scooters increases    .

Hanoi is an amazing city, the most scooters anywhere in Asia.  They are everywhere, with a population of 90 million, it seems nearly everyone has a scooter.  Our tour guide was telling us that the usual mode of operation is – graduate from school, get a job, buy a scooter, marry and then look for a house of your own.  Apparently it is easier to marry if you already have a scooter – it is a bit of a status symbol.  The better the scooter, the better chances you have of a good marriage.

Scooter Parking HanoiOur visit to the factory, on the outskirts of Hanoi, was just terrific.  Starting with a presentation from management telling us what has been happening in the world of Piaggio / Vespa, accompanied by espresso and biscotti (yes, they only serve espresso! Very Italian!).  Then onto the factory floor.  The factory is huge, we walked through about so many buildings and saw all stages of the manufacture.  From the frame dipping, to the engine builds, to the paintwork on the panels, the assembly and then the quality control and checks.  We were escorted around the engine assembly production line by the designer of the line, who was very proud of his work and his workers.  The line is fully computerised with a worker at each station.  The scanner reads what engine type is sitting on the line and then automatically ensures that the correct parts are installed and tested.  This testing is pretty specific with the tolerance margins set really tightly.  This process continues Track Daythroughout the entire line and is so specific that if they then have a quality issue in final testing they can trace it back through all stages of the assembly process and then refine their tolerance margins accordingly.

After lunch, we were over at the Piaggio / Vespa test track to try out some of the new models, including the Vespa Primavera 125.   That should have really been work, but it was just soooo much fun.  I thought I would have to leave Scott there as he just kept going from scooter to scooter.  If there was a scooter not being ridden, he was on it.

It was a fantastic trip and a great opportunity to see where our scooters are being built.  Scott and I are lucky enough to have seen the Piaggio / Vespa factories in both Hanoi, Vietnam and Pontedera , Italy.

Thanks to all our customers for their support and in making us one of the top Piaggio / Vespa Dealers in Australia!

Vespa Sprint 150 ie: “Vespino Vitality”

🌄 |

September 5, 2014

| ANDREA PORTER

A Sporty Vespa For A New Generation.

The all new exciting Vespa Sprint 150 i.e. is being release this month!  Colours are pure Italian with Rosso Dragon (red), Monte Bianco (white), Nero Vulcano (black), Blu Midnight (dark blue), Grigio Titanio (grey). If you are interested and want to find out more, give us a ring or drop in and see us as we can take pre-orders.

Vespa Sprint 150 - 5 colours

The Vespa Sprint  is set to strike a chord with the next generation of Vespa buyers and boasts new features not previously seen on the smaller Vespa body design.

The Vespa Sprint is a true revolution with respect to previous Vespa small body generations. With the goal of guaranteeing the same ease and lightweight qualities of previous Vespa small frame range while setting new standards in terms of comfort, space, riding pleasure and safety.

Vespa Sprint is a complete revamp of shape and size, picking up on the inspiration from the Vespa 946. The overall dimensions are still similar to those that marked the success of the Vespa LX however an increase in fundamental specific dimensions optimises the ergonomics, habitability and ease of use.

The rider now has more legroom behind the shield and a new footrest that facilitates placing both feet on the ground, thanks in part to a new foot board design. Ease of handling is still ensured by the compact lateral size.

Like the first prototype that inspired the name “Vespa” due to its similarity to a wasp the tail returns to its tapered pointed design and providing a streamlined appearance.

Celebrated for the unique all steel construction and famous shape, Vespa is generally categorised by body size, small frame for the compact inner urban commuter and large frame for the higher capacity models.

The small frame or ‘Vespino’ as they are known in Italy, offer a popular size compatible with inner city transport  purpose. Sprints new body sees rigidity of the headstock increased 36%, while the longitudinal resistance to flex also significantly increased, advantages tangible in terms of safety and riding pleasure on the road, where riders will discover Sprints dynamic qualities for exceptional stability and handling.

Sprint 150 is characterised by large diameter 12 inch rims ,the largest seen on a ‘Vespino’, and a new, sportier front end with Vespas new enhanced sliding suspension (ESS) designed to significantly improve road holding and rider enjoyment. Additionally distinctive styling, in reference to fashionable Sprints of the 60s and 70s with their trapezoidal headlight shape see Vespa again step away f rom the traditional round headlight and mirror design.

A move in line with the popular trend of retro style complimenting modern technology.  Vespa Sprint offers numerous bold aspects which strongly characterise the model and set it apart . The saddle has an exclusive design, enhanced by a strictly black covering with a white line finish. The convenient fold-away bag hook is retained, contributing to increasing the already significant cargo capacity of the Vespa Sprint.

A new battery location sees under seat storage increase to a very generous 16.6 litres. A new engine mount system first introduced on Primavera is prevalent on the Sprint keeping vibration to a bare minimum. Safety and security include LED front day time lamps, engine immobiliser and side stand with engine safety cut out switch.

As always in the history of Vespa, the brand new Vespa Sprint offers a wide range of accessories to customise your vehicle and to increase riding comfort including screens topboxes and racks.  Category leading 10,000 klm service periods and a standard 2 year unlimited klm warranty is applicable.

Vespa 946 – 2014 Collection

📕 |

July 31, 2014

| ANDREA PORTER

Vespa have announced their new 946 for 2014. It will be called the Bellissima. Available in Metallic Grey or Midnight Blue with a 150cc 3V engine, with the rear rack as standard. If you are interested and want to find out more, give us a ring or drop in and see us as we can take preorders.

Vespa 946 Bellissima

VESPA 946. BACK FROM THE FUTURE.

The essentiality of the design endows even the most impersonal function with style and individuality. The Vespa 946 is a pure expression of a style synonymous, in the minds of millions of travellers and devotees, with freedom of movement and expression. A far-sighted projection of sustainable mobility, whose form and substance crystallise the fundamental aesthetic and dynamic values of the history of the two-wheeler.

Vespa 946 Bellissima - Blu Midnight

VESPA 946.CONCEIVED THROUGH PASSION.

Real luxury is realising a more ambitious and fascinating dream every day. Today the Vespa 946 re-affirms its legend. It enhances the classical values of tradition: the shape of the handlebar, the proportions of the fairing, the plunging curves of the saddle all come from the earliest drawings. Every detail reflects a choice and a reference to Italian-style production. A craftsman’s approach in a futuristic dimension.

VESPA 946.UNIQUE VALUES.

The Vespa 946 is not simply self-celebration. It confirms a spirit animating and describing the creation of a product of excellence, in perfect osmosis with the future imagined in 1946 and the future being designed today in the same factories that developed the original Vespa. Aesthetic perfection, technological innovation, energy efficiency, sensitivity to the environment make the 946 an enthralling adventure.

Vespa 946 Bellissima - Grey MetallicVESPA 946.ECO-SUSTAINABLE BY VOCATION.

The way to guard against imitations is to look beyond the immediate future. The Vespa 946 has ABS braking and ASR traction control. The 4-stroke 125 cc monocylinder engine is a response to requirements that may still be nascent. And it guarantees the best performance in its category. Electronic injection, three-valve distribution, reduced friction and improved fluid dynamics sharply reduce consumption and emissions, establishing a new benchmark over and beyond current regulations.

Vespa Primavera – How it’s made

🎬 |

June 26, 2014

| ANDREA PORTER

THE VESPA PRIMAVERA LEGEND IS BACK.

New body, new wheel sizes, new front suspension, new electronic injection system for unbeatable low emissions.  The Primavera is a highly modern Vespa, designed with the elegance of an exclusive style but without renouncing the comfort aspect.

The new Vespa Primavera represents an important point of evolution in the Vespa story.  During the design phase, every solution focused on increasing the level of comfort, safety and driving pleasure compared with the previous (and even recent) generations, continuing an evolution that, for almost 70 years and after more than 18 million vehicles sold over the five continents, makes Vespa the youngest and best-loved two-wheeler in the world.

In store now and they look as good in the flesh as they do in the photos!
