On the 28th September 2014, Scott and Andrea took part in The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride in Brisbane together with about 250 other riders. The ride is all about getting about on something classic while wearing your most classy duds – suits and frocks are de rigour! That beard Scott has been growing for the last few months was for a reason!
This International Event is for classic bikes, café racers, bobbers, trackers, customs, modern classics, classic scooters and undefinable 2/3 wheel machines. The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride was founded in 2012 to assist in combating the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles and to raise money for Prostate Cancer research. The first ride brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities and this success encouraged the organisers to continue on.
There were 258 rides across 57 countries held on the 28 September 2014 to raise money to help to find a cure for Prostate Cancer. The goal was to raise $1 million in 2014, they have smashed it out of the ball park raising $1.62 million at the time of writing this! Australia was the top fundraising country with 1,761 riders taking part across the country raising more than $486,000. London just pipped Sydney as the highest fundraising city in the world, with Brisbane coming in at Number 5 on the list.
All in all it was a terrific day, finishing up at Morrisons Hotel with bands and boutique beers – what more could you ask for? We’ll definitely be lining up again for next year.
